Paul-Bernhard Kallen has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Hubert Burda Media, effective January 1, 2010.
Kallen is currently a member of the board and has been responsible for Technology, Finance, and International.
He joined Hubert Burda Media in 1996 and was personally appointed to the board by Hubert Burda in October 1999. He initially took leadership of technologies (print, Internet, IT), then also for treasury and Services and Procurement. Last year Kallen also took over the areas of direct marketing, international, printing and finance.
Among his successes are the restructuring of the subsidiary Burda Druck, and establishing a highly profitable equity portfolio in digital media. In mid-November he acquired 25.1 percent of the business network Xing.
Kallen was previously a Partner at McKinsey & Company.
David Kirkpatrick is the author of The Facebook Effect and an organizer of the Techonomy conference. Previously, he was the senior editor for internet and technology at Fortune Magazine. He specialized in the computer and technology industries, as well as in the impact of the Internet on business and society. He thinks that impact is huge. His book, The Facebook Effect, about Facebook’s history and how it is changing behaviors across societies worldwide, was recently published. He maintains a blog at facebook.com/thefacebookeffect.
Tom Glocer (born 8 October 1959) is the CEO of Thomson Reuters and former CEO of Reuters.
Mr. Glocer joined Reuters Group in 1993 as Vice President and Deputy Counsel, Reuters America. He held a number of senior leadership positions at Reuters, including President of Reuters LatAm and Reuters America, before being named CEO of Reuters Group PLC in July 2001.
He is a director of Merck & Co., Inc., and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Board of Directors of the Partnership for New York City, the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, the Columbia College Board of Visitors, the President's Council on International Activities at Yale University, the Advisory Board of the Judge Institute of Management at Cambridge University, the European Business Leaders Council, the International Advisory Board of British American Business Inc., the International Business Advisory Council London, and the Madison Council of the Library of Congress.
